ABSTRACT
The article reports that plans by federal regulators in the U.S. to revise air quality standards for particle pollution could require some power plant operators to take further emission reduction steps. However, the changes could be good news for farmers and mine operators concerned about minimizing dust from their operations. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to tighten the air quality standard for fine particle pollution, such as that emitted by coal-burning power plants, but to eliminate a standard for coarse particles in rural areas that come from the Earth's crust.
