The article reports that the implementation of embedded IP telephone application tools signify the second wave of the IP-telephony evolution. More customers are implementing newly available CTI-like productivity applications via an IP telephone, without an associated PC client. The annual shipments of browser-capable IP telephones have increased in past two years and third party application developers such as Net 6 and Berbee have been actively promoting the browser option to a growing base of IP-telephony system customers. The IP Touch telephone models combine traditional voice features and attributes with the essential features of a data terminal and have a large graphical user interfaces display with associated context-dependent keys. Taser International Inc.'s 8690 IP telephone instruments use multifunctional communications devices for a variety of information applications, most significantly as a replacement for PC usage where the phone is more convenient. The desktop phone is capable of information and productivity services that previously required a PC. Today, most customers perceive an IP-telephony system as a mainstream enterprise voice communications solution.
