The article focuses on the financial performance of Wilmington Trust Co. (Wilmington). High profits have been earned by Wilmington on the strength of its regional banking and wealth advisory businesses. The company has been able to control its operating expenses and has earned $40.4 million in the most recent quarter. This represents an 11% increase when compared to the year-ago quarter and slightly higher than the first quarter of 2005. Wilmington's earnings per share for the second quarter of 2005 were 59 cents. This is 9% higher than the company's second-quarter results in 2004.
