ABSTRACT
The article reports on the plan of Dish Network and DirecTV Inc. to offer local high-definition television (HDYV) programming for 2006. Dish Network plans to offer local HD channels via satellite to as many as 50 markets, with plans to reach roughly 50% of U.S. homes in 2006. Dish also plans to add five to 10 more HDTV national channels to those 25 later in 2006. DirecTV will offer local HDTV in up to 36 markets by the end of the first quarter.
