ABSTRACT
The article features an insider's look at the working day of a sitcom writer. Last year the author begged for a job writing for "Crumbs," a new pilot he liked. On his first day at the job, having no experience, he was panicked about the prospect of being sent off to write. Then he discovered that all sitcom writing is done by a committee. This, he was surprised to learn, was how Shakespeare wrote. At the meetings, Marco Pennette, creator of the show, asked for ideas. When they finally came up with something, they spent another day working on a detailed outline that they showed to the studio, Touchstone, and then to ABC.
