ABSTRACT
This article provides information on the Tony awards nominees in 1999 who are profiled and ranked, based on a recognition category, in the 1999 issue of People's magazine. Longtime character actor Brian Dennehy earned top Tony honors as bast actor in a play for his version of Willy Loman in the classic Death of a Salesman. In the POP profiles, theatergoers also gave him top honors in recognition. The most enigmatic of the People POP number come from Kevin Spacey, who lost to Dennehy, for his role in another revival the Iceman Cometh. Only 46% of respondents recognized him. Theatergoers are very familiar with Bernadette Peters over the year as a stage actress. In 1999, she won a Tony as the leading actress in a musical for Annie Get Your Gun.
