ABSTRACT
This article reports on the promotional plans of cereal marketer General Mills for its Cheerios product line called Millenios in 1999. The product is a brown sugar, whole grain and oat blend. One expected promotion will involve using futuristic-looking metallic package to create a time capsule for children. The program will be launched in August. General Mills would not identify the agency, but Saatchi & Saatchi is the Cheerios advertising agency. The Cheerios brand is going into the next century as the leading cereal in the U.S. The flagship yellow-box brand finished in 1998 with $319.6 million in sales, according to Information Resources, Inc.
