ABSTRACT
The article reports on the lost of the right of cable operators to deliver some digital-television (DTV) signals in analog via the passage of a legislation that set February 17, 2009 as the deadline of the transmission of local broadcasting to digital system in the U.S. The operators wanted to have the right to downconvert DTV must-carry stations according to Kyle McSlarrow, president of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association. About $1.5 billion of federal program to subsidize digital-to-analog converter boxes are created under the legislation.
