ABSTRACT
The article comments on Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater" music. The text of the music shares several characteristics with eighteenth-century sentimentalism. Pergolesi amplifies the emotionalism of the words in his music by bringing the expressive clarity and flexibility of his dramatic music.
