ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the sedimentary basins in Libya. Most oil explorations and wildcat drilling took place at the Sirte Basin which is an aborted Cretaceous rift system. The geological structure and stratigraphy of both the Murzuq Basin and Ghadames Basin are very similar. Offshore production took place at the Pelagian Basin. Among the basins, Kufra is the under explored while the Cyrenaica Platform produced very little petroleum, in spite of several wildcatting activities in the area.
