ABSTRACT
The article presents a historical background on the petroleum and mining sectors in Libya. Petroleum exploration and production the country began in the 1950s, with the domestic and foreign companies rushing for it. It was governed by the Petroleum Law of 1955. The price policy was settled when the country joined the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The country's mineral resources, on the other hand, were largely limited to iron ore deposit. The deposits are exploited by General Iron and Steel Corp.
