ABSTRACT
The article presents a conceptual model of curricular decision making that might help to direct curriculum theory away from normative and prescriptive approaches and toward the development of more descriptive and explanatory theoretical constructs. The environmental inputs affecting curricular decision making, the curricular design variables from which decisions evolve, and the relationships implicit in the juxtaposition of input variables with curricular design variables represent the primary consideration that informed the literal and figurative modeling. In addition, the model represents an integration of many of the more global concepts incorporated in earlier models. Decision making theory and models of decision making per se have been incorporated into the design concept so that the emerging model in fact represents a new view of curricular decision making, a new concept of curricular design. The concept can have applied uses as well as contribute to an understanding of the evolving curriculum.
