ABSTRACT
The article discusses the educational programs of the United States Office of Education and the Office of Child Development to emphasize parenthood education in the U.S. The Education for Parenthood Program by the Offices and the Office of Child Development in September 1972, now has several programs funded to implement the stated goal of helping teenage boys and girls prepare for effective parenthood. To meet the needs of teenagers and their families, the Office of Education and the Office of Child Development decided to develop major Education for Parenthood projects. The Office of Child Development has awarded a grant to Education Development Center, Cambridge, Massachusetts, to prepare a comprehensive one-year curriculum on child development for boys and girls in grades 7-12. This course, called "Exploring Childhood." The Office of Child Development is awarding grants to several national voluntary youth-serving organizations to develop their own approaches to teaching adolescents about parenthood outside of the school systems, and to promote Education for Parenthood among millions of young people across the country over a three-year period.
