ABSTRACT
This article presents information on the Mendenhall River in Southeast Alaska. The river is considered a popular tourist spot for Juneau residents to hone their whitewater technique in the spring and summer and for cruise ship passengers visiting Juneau. It has incredible views of the Mendenhall Glacier and the Juneau Icefield. Originating in Mendenhall Lake about 10 miles west of Juneau, the river flows southward about 5 miles, emptying into the Gastineau Channel. It has Class II drop-pool rapids and sharp bends, requiring lots of technical maneuvering.
