ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the rivers in the Arctic Slope in Alaska, namely, Colville River, Ivishak River and Killik River. The Colville River dominates the region with watershed draining 24,000 square miles, Breakup in rivers occur in June, and reach their peak flows at this time. It scours the banks by pushing ice down braided streams that flow through U-shaped glacial valleys. The climate in the Arctic Slope is cold and dry. It only receives 7 inches of precipitation annually. Less than half of this occurs as summer rainfall.
