ABSTRACT
This article discusses the scope of guidance programs in the junior high schools of Los Angeles County, California. It is apparent that the guidance personnel approaches the program with a philosophy that holds: (1) the counselor accepts the youngster as he is; (2) behavior is caused and a child's reactions are based on past experience; (3) desirable actions can be brought about; (4) each child is unique; (5) every youngster has problems. It is noted that the kind of organization for guidance services varies from district to district. There are three general types of organizations: supervisor of counseling and psychological services; director of curriculum and research; and teacher-counselor plan.
