ABSTRACT
The article explores the opportunities available to American students who want to study in a foreign country. The broadening effect of study abroad is immeasurable. Introduced to a new culture and to new ideas and outlooks, the student cannot help but be stimulated. Inside the classroom of a foreign university, the American student is introduced to new ideas in lectures, seminars and discussions by professors and students from different cultures. He can earn from studies in language, the arts and the social sciences, particularly political science and international relations. There are a lot of grants and fellowships available to give financial aid to qualified students. The Fulbright program is one example. By the end of October 1949, some 600 American graduate students had left to study in foreign universities with the aid of grants made possible by this legislation.
