ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the active problem solving (APS) model that special and general educators can use in elementary, middle, and high school settings to motivate students. It can also help them in developing the skills they need to become more effective problem solvers. APS model works in five steps by identifying the problem, listing of all possible solutions, evaluating options and selecting the best choice, taking action according to them and at last does their assessment. The two important components of the model are taking action and student reflection. Students with disabilities should be directed to know how to take action as well as how to reflect on that action. Empowerment and motivation of these students is an inner drive or desire that causes a person to take action. They are of vital importance in helping students take action and persist to complete their goals. Teachers are suggested to discuss the APS model and the plan for implementation with parents, administrators, and other school staff before implementing it.
