Macromarketed Rubik's Cube turns around Ideal's profit picture with sales of 10 million

This article presents information about financial performance of Ideal Toy Corp. By building consumer awareness, Ideal was able to sell more than 10 million of the puzzle Rubik's cube. The puzzle's performance helped turn around the toymaker's financial position as well. The company lost $6 million on sales of $129 million in 1979, before it acquired the. U.S. marketing rights to Rubik's Cube. In 1980, the company enjoyed profits of $3.7 million. The sales of the brainteaser in the first three quarters of 1981 helped Ideal register profits of $7.5 million on sales of $167 million.
