The article details the production of the motion picture "Jarhead," directed by Sam Mendes. Mendes, who has not been known as a visual effects director, had to create various effects to depict the conflagration caused by the burning oil fields of Kuwait, the film being based on a U.S. marine's memoir of the first Gulf War. In addition to integrating the fires, the crew added atmospheric effects that included an animated smoke-filled canopy in background, which was done as a matte painting in Inferno.
