ABSTRACT
The article reports on the impact of the increase in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) prices on PET users as of November 2005. The increase in the prices of PET has prompted major users to cut costs or lower their profit outlook. Prices climbed in October 2005 and producers are seeking further increases for November 2005. Hurricane Katrina hit the PET industry more significantly than other polymers because it forced down a large portion of North American para-xylene feedstock production in 2005. High prices in North America have also caused buyers to import more from Asia, as the U.S. International Trade Commission has dropped antidumping charges against Asian PET producers.
