ABSTRACT
The article reports on the high-definition Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG)-4 signals launched by DirecTV in Detroit, Michigan in 2005. The MPEG-4 technology enables DirecTV to deploy high-definition on a market-by-market basis. DirecTV plans to launch more MPEG-4 high-definition television signals in 2006. The company also plans to open encoding facilities in the markets where it will introduce MPEG-4 technology.
