The article discusses the vital role of small and medium-sized enterprises in innovation, as a key to Great Britain's and Europe's future prosperity. In this connection, the government launched the 'Ten Year Science and Innovation Investment Framework." The development of a National Technology Strategy and its supporting funding program was a key component of the framework document. Some of the government's program includes tax credits to small businesses, funding and contributions to universities, and large firms' participation in getting research ideas.
