ABSTRACT
The article presents a response to a letter by Virginia Postrel, editor of "Reason," regarding an editorial about her views on the history of U.S. immigration policy. Her admission that the 1965 act has problems signifies the beginning of the collapse of the noncommittal position of the libertarian establishment on immigration. It also implies that the immigration policy of the country is problematic. Postrel is criticized for her claim that the Mexican border is essentially open after the restrictive legislation of the 1920s. A policy that allows more immigrants in against the will of U.S. citizens is more interventionist than a policy that allows fewer immigrants into the country.
