ABSTRACT
This article reports that following the signing of the Oslo accords in the year 1993, many thought that the issues at the core of the Palestine conflict would be resolved through negotiations within the next few years. However, some critical observers warned that the agreement gave no guarantee that a genuinely independent and viable Palestinian state would be created and that it sidelined the issue of the rights of Palestinians exiled in 1948 and later. Twelve years after signing of the accord, Israel still directly occupies most of the Palestinian land it took in 1967 and controls access to the remainder.
