ABSTRACT
This article reports that the Israeli army's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip is seen as an unofficial resumption of trade between Egypt and Gaza. It doesn't matter that the politicians are wrangling over border formalities: Palestinians from throughout Gaza have been finding their way over, around, and through the iron wall that turned Rafah into a divided city for decades. It is informed that Israel's treaty with Egypt divided the city of Rafah--and, in many cases, homes and families--in two. As the conflict intensified, the dividing wall grew taller and more heavily fortified, while the razed zone inexorably ate away at Rafah's border neighborhoods.
