A move to make land trusts more accountable

This article reports that Land Trust Alliance unveils accreditation program which offers tax incentives for land conservation in the U.S. The land trusts will open up their books and their conservation easements to an independent commission for its stamp of approval. The conservation easements have become the primary tool for preserving private land. Landowners can donate development rights to a land trust.
