ABSTRACT
This article profiled organizations that have unique requirements for VoWiFi, the synergistic marriage of the voice over Internet protocol and wireless local area network (WLAN) technologies. These requirements are influenced by business needs, environmental conditions, legacy data network and telephony systems, existing applications, and mobile user population. Some of these organizations are the following: 1) McKee Foods Corp.; 2) UNC Hospitals; 3) Metro Toronto Convention Center; and, 4) EMC Corp. As observed, a WLAN designed to carry data will not probably meet voice needs without some redesign and expansion. Network convergence and asset reuse may reduce cost, but companies should include WLAN refinement in their VoWiFi project budgets. INSET: Dunkin Donuts: Debugging Is Hard To Do.
