ABSTRACT
This article presents three technical and product or service approaches in order to achieve seamless fixed/mobile convergence (FMC). FMC is an attempt to exploit synergies between wireless and wireline technologies to deliver new capabilities. And these approaches, mobile operator control, fixed operator control, and enterprise control, differ primarily in who controls the establishment of voice calls or other multimedia sessions. With mobile operator control, the cellular network provides all call control and signaling. With fixed operator control, the wireline network provides all call control and signaling. And with enterprise control, the Internet protocol-private branch exchange provides all call control and signaling.
