ABSTRACT
This article focuses on various issues related to convenience stores in various states of the U.S. Patrick Hicks, president and CEO of the Kentucky Association of Convenience Stores, said that Kentucky wrestles with the high cost of health insurance. Oklahoma gears up for its new lottery. Tennessee lays plans to improve its carding rules, and Texas celebrates a victory in its petroleum storage tank program. In Tennessee, when a store clerk fails to card an underage beer buyer, or inadvertently sells alcohol to an ineligible shopper, it's the store owner who pays the price by potentially losing his beer license. Jarron Springer, executive director of the Tennessee Grocers & Convenience Store Association, is aiming to reinstate vendor's compensation for collecting sales taxes, shooting for a $25 payment for each sales tax report filled. Retailers used to receive compensation but it was eliminated in 2000.
