ABSTRACT
The article presents the editor's introduction to the November 21, 2005 edition, which features a special report on inventors and their inventions. The author reviews how a grand invention can make all the false starts and trial runs worth the trouble. The issue features 40 examples of inventive genius in fields such as electronics, aeronautics, medical technology, sports equipment, toys, clothing and food.
