This article presents information on a rail service introduced by Kuehne & Nagel in Great Britain in November 2005. In response to significant demand from customers, Kuehne & Nagel has commenced operations with Logico, the new intermodal logistics service division of Freightliner. The first Freightliner intermodal container service dedicated entirely to Kuehne & Nagel runs between Felixstowe and Daventry in the Midlands, Monday to Friday, initially comprised of 18 wagons with a capacity of 54teu. As this is a gauge-cleared route, there are no restrictions on high-cube containers for the loads, which consist primarily of consumer goods destined for distribution centers. With the greater degree of control and flexibility allowed by the new service Kuehne & Nagel's customers are benefiting from increased reliability created through the avoidance of road congestion and vehicle queues at Felixstowe, together with a short-haul final leg that ensures on-time delivery at destination.
