ABSTRACT
This article presents an outlook for the market performance of cable television networks in the U.S. in 1999. With its expanded role, cable will continue to benefit from the low ratings of broadcast network by getting more viewers. Advertisers are also expected to spend more on cable television. Cable networks are investing in a large quantity of original movies, television series and first-run films as they strive to improve their offerings and work toward higher ratings and parity with broadcast networks in cost per thousand rates. Cable television networks will increase its rates in the range of 8 per cent to 12 per cent.
