Tapping into premium beer

This article deals with the implications of consumer shopping preferences for trade-up opportunities for U.S. supermarkets. Supermarkets may be able to score bigger beer sales overall by tapping into premium craft and imported beers more aggressively. With sales of domestic mass beers running only slightly up or flat and recent data showing consumers are shifting away from beer and toward liquor and wine, supermarket beer programs could certainly use the shot in the arm that an emphasis on the premium segment could offer.
