ABSTRACT
This article reports on the performance of the South Korean motion picture industry as of October 2005. Box office performance of Korean films declined in the first half of the year, shocking local producers who had enjoyed a string of hits over the last five years, particularly in the record-breaking 2004 campaign. Marathon, a drama about an autistic boy who finds his feet through running, was a massive hit, sprinting off to log five million admissions. The skating drama The Aggressives and gangster picture Bittersweet Life were among other films that endured disappointing box-office performance.
