ABSTRACT
Suggests that adding wireless to networking does more than change physically layer-test requirements, it adds system complexity that needs simultaneous controlled testing of many layers. Anticipated substantial growth of wireless networking based on the IEEE 802.11 standards in both the number of units sold and the range of their applications; Mobility inherent in wireless networks that creates interactions between the physical and the protocol layers that greatly increase its complexity; Tools that are becoming available to streamline the process; Test designs that need shielded enclosures of Faraday cages to eliminate outside interference to ensure repeatability; Increasing availability of specialized tools for radio frequency testing and system-environment emulation.
