ABSTRACT
Presents new insights into the mechanisms regulating acinar cell-cell contact in the exocrine pancreas. Information that the formation of tissues and organs of multicellular organisms during embryonic development involves a highly regulated process of integration and segregation of heterogeneous cell populations into organised cell patterns; Report that one of the major regulators of the processes of cell migration, proliferation, and differentiation during organogenesis is cell-cell adhesion, which is predominantly mediated by cell surface glycoproteins; Information that these cell adhesion proteins can respond to cell signalling events and can also transduce signals into the cell.

The PTF1 (pancreas transcription factor 1) complex is a master regulator of differentiation of acinar cells, responsible for the production of digestive enzymes. In the adult pancreas, PTF1 contains two pancreas-restricted transcription factors: Ptf1a and Rbpjl. PTF1 recruits P/CAF [p300/CREB...

Activin A and betacellulin (BTC) are thought to regulate differentiation of pancreatic β-cells during development and regeneration of β-cells in adults. In the present study, we used neonatal rats treated with streptozotocin (STZ) to investigate the effects of activin A and BTC on...

We studied cAMP-mediated exocytosis in rat pancreatic acinar cells. We monitored changes in the membrane capacitance (ΔC), which reflects the granule fusion/retrieval process, with whole-cell patch-clamp capacitance measurement. The rise in cellular cAMP, caused indirectly by receptor...

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) controls glucose homeostasis by regulating secretion of insulin and glucagon through a single GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1 R).
