ABSTRACT
The article presents an answer to a clinical question related to the effect of streptokinase in patients with pleural infection. In this study, the streptokinase and placebo groups did not differ for the primary outcome of death or need for surgical drainage at 3 months. The lack of difference remained at 12 months. Groups did not differ for death or need for surgical drainage analyzed separately at 3 or 12 months. In patients with pleural infection, streptokinase did not reduce mortality, the need for surgical drainage, or hospital length of stay more than placebo.
