ABSTRACT
The article presents information about the 80th anniversary of the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky. The year 2005 marks the 80th anniversary of the University of Louisville entering the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). The University of Louisville houses the largest selective government documents collection in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and has remained committed to free and open access to government information. The FDLP was created as a partnership between libraries and the federal government to distribute and make available the vast amount of information collected and produced by government entities. The FDLP has been instrumental through the years in helping citizens navigate this vast amount of information. The Federal Depository Library Act of 1962 designated regional depositories to oversee the selective depositories of their state and maintain a complete collection of government information for posterity. The amount of information produced by the United States Government is staggering.
