An intense sub-10 fs Ti:sapphire laser system has been developed for investigating ultrafast nonlinear phenomena. Sub-10 fs, multimillijoule pulses were obtained from a laser system consisting of a conventional chirped-pulse amplifier and a subsequent pressure-gradient hollow fiber pulse compressor, without any additional amplification. We describe the design and performance of the laser system together with high-order harmonic generation in the sub-10 fs regime as an example of one of the applications that were made possible by using this laser system.

Pulsed laser heating in a diamond anvil cell has several advantages over cw heating: it can suppress thermally activated diffusion of the pressurization medium into the gasket and diamond, suppress chemical reactions of impurities with the sample and environment, requires far less average power...

We have demonstrated a high-power laser oscillator with end-cooling using a sapphire-sandwiched Yb:YAG disk at near liquid nitrogen temperature. An output power of 75 W with a near-diffraction-limited beam was obtained from a 0.6-mm thick activemedium. The slope efficiency and themaximum...

A high-power dual-wavelength laser is constructed in two fiber-loop mirror cavities by utilizing a common-gain medium. The output power and side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of the lasers were investigated for a bidirectionally pumped system. The outcome of the experiment shows that two lasing...
