ABSTRACT
The article informs that Precision Castparts Corp. is acquiring Special Metals Corp. (SMC), a producer of high-performance nickel-based alloys and super alloys. The purchase price is approximately $540 million in cash, and includes Precision Castparts repaying SMC's outstanding debt. Mark Donegan, chairman and chief executive officer of Precision Castparts Corp., said the acquisition will give his company an internal supply of nickel-based billet for its forged products operations. He also said his company intends to increase SMC's volume, and to make the company's operations more efficient.
