ABSTRACT
The article evaluates the performance of advertising agency GSD&M as of January 2000. The company worked steadily to break the $1 billion barrier in 1999, with its media department reeling in the biggest account wins. The company won the $100 million media account of DreamWorks SKG in March 1999. Austin, Texas-based GSD&M also brought dot-coms by the screenful, including the launch campaign for HowtoHQ.com and assignments for Supportkids.com and Agillion.com. In November 1999, the company launched Idea Ventures, a unit that barters advertising services for equity in Internet start-ups. In early January 2000, the company won the $100 million media-buying account of SBC Communications' Ameritech subsidiary.
