This article discusses the significance of emerging wireless local area network (WLAN) security solutions to network administration. Network administrators needs the ability to not only control who can go where in the network but also be able to look closely at the data that has been transmitted after that access has been granted. Emerging wireless security solutions solve many of these problems by eliminating the need for a parallel network infrastructure. A complete WLAN security alternative will need to deliver several capabilities, including high level of security, easy deployment and scalability, single security management interface, seamless roaming, wireless guest access, rogue access point detection, core network services, and standards-based technology.
