ABSTRACT
This article reports on a protest that was staged against multinational U.S.-based marketers during a meeting held by the World Trade Organization in Seattle, Washington. Multinational U.S. based marketers became a lightning rod for protesters. Masked individuals roamed the downtown shopping area vandalizing, and sometimes looting, the sites of such brand giants as Starbucks, McDonald's, Niketown, The Gap and Old Navy. Some veteran protesters complained that the vandals were young anarchists, and that the more experienced demonstrators actually tried to stop the rampage.
