ABSTRACT
This article reports the launch of a television advertisement for the 2000 Sportage sport utility vehicle (SUV) by Kia Motors America in the U.S. in October 4, 1999. The 30-second advertisement from Goldberg Moser O'Neill, entitled Cabin, pits the Sportage SUV against the HONDA CRV and shows a couple heading to a remote cabin in the Kia, followed by a couple in a CRV. As the Honda is unable to navigate an incline, voice-over says: The Honda has an ordinary chassis that can affect your performance. The passenger in the Honda tells the driver, It is okay. It happens to a lot of guys. Kia will spend $20 million this quarter in television.
