ABSTRACT
The article presents guidelines for developing literacy skills among children. Most babies enjoy simple board books--with soft and scratchy textures, squeaky noises, or popups--that can be handled easily. Parents should help helping children in identifying new words and their meanings. While reading a book to your young child, begin by showing him the cover and pointing to some of the pictures. Encourage him to guess what the story might be about. Talk about what it means to be an author and an illustrator.
