ABSTRACT
This article presents information on a study related to screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). 4 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of population-based screening for AAA in several men, 65 years of age were included. Meta-analysis showed that an invitation to attend AAA screening and a strategy of operating for a diameter 5cm compared with usual care reduced AAA-related mortality 4 RCTs, but not all-cause mortality 3 RCTs. 1 RCT in women 65 to 80 years of age showed no reduction in AAA-related mortality or all-cause mortality with population-based AAA screening at 5-year follow-up.
