The article profiles fire fighter Tom Schroeder. He always wanted to be in fire fighting service, so in 1991, at the young age of 18, he entered the fire service while continuing his education. Tom went on to earn firefighter certifications in Structure, Wildland, and Aircraft, as well as EMT-IV, basic trauma life support, basic pharmacology, Haz-Mat Technician, and extrication technician. He then left his home department near Denver to travel and fight fires around the world. He first went to McMurdo Station in Antarctica in 1995, and then Andros Island in the Bahamas in 1998. Tom returned home to the Denver area in 2000 and worked for three years as an Emergency Service Officer for the Keystone Resort. Tom is a road warrior covering the Western 11 states and Canada for W.S. Darley and Co.
