ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the business environment in Asia. To companies that play it super-straight, East Asia can be disheartening. It's the world's fastest-growing region. But business ethics often seem mired in the past. In booming Thailand, experienced observers say, payoffs have never been so pervasive. In China, corruption among government officials has even fueled popular protests against the regime. And while the trend in Indonesia is toward less corruption, the country still has a reputation among Western businessmen as the worst in Asia.
