This article reports that stakes in the Philadelphia Stock Exchange and Boston Stock Exchange venture hold up threat of order-flow shift. In what many saw as a protest against the dominant role of Goldman in the merger of the New York Stock Exchange with electronic trading network Archipelago, Morgan Stanley & Co. Inc., Citigroup Inc., Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) Corp. and UBS joined Merrill Lynch and hedge fund Citadel in buying stakes in the Philadelphia Stock Exchange for around $20 million. Meanwhile, Citigroup, Fidelity Investments and CSFB were reportedly in talks with the Boston Stock Exchange to put a similar sum into creating a new electronic trading network. The Boston deal is to be formally announced this week.
